Situated on the shoreline in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, this project embodies the landscape design and ecological principles that guide each of our creative projects, employing a sensitive reading of a site to generate a design that is evocative of the characteristics of a place.

The landscape design is choreographed through a single circulation path, while framing several key views of the lake and the landscape beyond to connect the building with the unique relationship it has to Lake Ontario. The mix of woodland restoration and native meadow act as a living filtration system, absorbing water through a series of cascading stormwater channels, and slowing it before it enters the lake.

A focus on species patterns that are endemic to the Carolinian Life zone has been carried through the design process to ensure adaptive ecological principles are a guiding structure for the project.
